AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Senior Cara Stricklin of the No. 16 Auburn gymnastics team was named to the 2018 SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced.
The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
Stricklin has been very active in community service during her four years on the Plains. As the Community Service Coordinator for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Mandeville, La., product has not only been a part of many projects on the Pains, but has also been proactive in encouraging fellow student-athletes to give back.
For the past two years, Stricklin has organized the SAAC Salvation Army Angel Tree project as well as supporting the Toys for Tots drive. As a part of these services, she has helped fulfill area children's Christmas lists, while also transporting the donations to drop-off sites.
Stricklin has also helped organize the Auburn University Campus Food Pantry Food Drive over the past two years. The food drive is a competition among all Auburn student-athletes that helps supply the university's student pantry. This year's drive doubled last year's contribution as SAAC donated almost 2,000 pounds of goods.
This past summer, Stricklin organized a community service trip to Birmingham where she and fellow student-athletes volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, while also providing assistance at the Birmingham Zoo.
In addition, Stricklin has been consistently involved in the Auburn Athletics Tigers Give Back Day, providing service throughout the city of Auburn. She has also participated in the Auburn Athletics Student-Athlete Day, welcoming grade-school children to campus and speaking on the importance of school.
Auburn continues postseason action at the 2018 NCAA Salt Lake City Regional, April 7, in the Huntsman Center. The regional meet will be hosted by Utah.
