AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 18 Auburn women's tennis team will be back home at the Yarbrough Tennis Center this weekend for its first home SEC competition.
The Tigers will start the weekend early by taking on Mississippi State on Thursday, March 8 at 6 p.m. Auburn will then host a doubleheader against No. 12 Ole Miss and Alabama A&M on Saturday, March 10. The first match against Ole Miss will begin at noon. The second match against Alabama A&M is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., but the time may vary depending on the length of the first match.
The Tigers are coming off of their first road trip in SEC play, where they went 1-1. Although Auburn fell to No. 4 Vanderbilt 4-1, the Tigers rallied in Lexington to defeat Kentucky 4-3 after being down 3-1.
Senior Alizee Michaud was instrumental in Auburn's victory over Kentucky as she claimed the first singles point for the Tigers. That win not only extended her win streak in singles to seven and improved her singles record to 12-1, but also sparked the comeback. As her victory brought Auburn within a point after the Tigers had already taken the doubles point, fellow senior Andie Dikosavljevic and sophomore Georgie Axon sealed the deal in the final two matches.
Auburn is now 12-5 on the season and 1-1 in SEC play. Freshman Madeline Meredith joins Michaud as another Tiger with double digit wins, going 12-2 in singles competition this spring. As for doubles, the freshman duo of Meredith and Jaeda Daniel have formed the Tigers' most formidable tandem this season, posting a 6-1 record to date.
Auburn's next action will continue at home in the Yarbrough Tennis Center as they take on Alabama on Friday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
