Auburn sweeps javelin events on Day 1 of Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Ala. - A clean sweep in the men's and women's javelin highlighted Auburn track and field's first day of the Tiger Track Classic at Hutsell-Rosen Track Friday. Freshman Cade Antonucci won the men's javelin with a throw of 69.96m/229-6, while on the women's side sophomore Kylee Carter won gold with a throw of 50.55m/165-10.

Antonucci, who has won the last two events he's competed in during the outdoor season, posted the No. 4 all-time mark at Auburn en route to the win. Junior John Putnam was second (66.37m/217-9), followed by senior Justin Carter (66.00m/216-6) who took third.

The Auburn women's throwers claimed the top four spots in the javelin, behind Carter's performance that was fourth all-time at Auburn. Freshman Ashley Carter claimed silver with a personal-best mark of 47.93m/157-03. Junior Peyton Montgomery was third (46.96m/154-01), while senior Kendra Mitchell rounded out Auburn's sweep, finishing fourth (45.21m/148-04).

In the men's decathlon, sophomore Chris Stone is in first place after one day of competition with 3038 points. Stone set a new personal best in the high jump, clearing 2.03m/6-08 while tying a PR in the 100m dash in 11.13.

Senior Dominique Bullock claimed silver in the women's long jump with a jump of 6.10m/20-0.25. On the men's side, junior Mark Rubalcaba took third in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.54m/24-9, just three quarters of an inch shy of his PR.

Senior Erin Perkins was third in the women's hammer throw, establishing a new personal best with a mark of 58.79m/192-10.

On the track, senior Wesley Curles was third in the men's 1500m invite with a season-best time of 3:45.15. Senior transfer Amy Hansen, competing in her first event at Auburn, was third in the women's 3000m Steeplechase in 10:59.70.

Day 2 of the Tiger Track Classic will start Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CT with the multi-events and field events. Action on the track will start at 12 p.m. Admission to the meet is FREE. Fans are encouraged to park on Lem Morrison Drive or in the Hayfields on South Donahue Drive.
