Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season In Close Match At No. 5 Texas A&M

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn concluded the men's tennis regular season Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 loss to No. 5 Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

Texas A&M won the doubles point with victories on courts one and three, although Auburn tandem Carles Sarrio and Matteo De Vincentis were leading their match on court two against No. 89 A.J. Catanzariti and Valentin Vacherot by a 5-3 score when doubles play was clinched.

In singles, Sarrio and Brandon Laubser won the first sets of their matches, but the Aggies clinched the overall match with wins on courts three, two and one. As the remaining matches were played out, Auburn picked up three wins. Sarrio was a 6-2, 7-5 victor over No. 52 Vacherot on court four, Laubser won 7-6, 7-5 over Catanzariti on court six, and Tad Maclean won a third-set super tiebreaker 10-4 to take the match on court five 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 over No. 105 Juan Carlos Aguilar.

Auburn is 12-17 overall and 1-11 in SEC play. No. 5 Texas A&M is 20-4 overall and 12-0 in the SEC. The SEC men's tennis championships are April 25-28 at Alabama; Auburn will face Alabama in the opening round at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.
