AUBURN, Ala. - Senior Edward Nguyen was recognized Tuesday as a member of the SEC Community Service Team in men's tennis, recognizing the accomplishments of outstanding student-athletes beyond the field of competition.
The men's tennis representative on Auburn's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Auburn's team captain, Nguyen has been involved with activities such as the Toys for Tots annual collection and distribution, Downtown Auburn Trick or Treat festival, annual campus Student-Athlete Day, Beat Bama food drive and the SAAC clothing drive. He serves as an AUConnect leader, and has been a clinician and speaker for numerous tennis leagues and camps locally and in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Others named to the team include Nuno Borges (Mississippi State), Will Bushamuka (Kentucky), Gustav Hansson (Ole Miss), McClain Kessler (Florida), Thomas Mayronne (South Carolina), Shane Monroe (LSU), Wayne Montgomery (Georgia), Edson Ortiz (Alabama), Alex Ross (Vanderbilt) and Branch Terrell (Arkansas).
All league-sponsored sports have recognized a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003.
Auburn opens SEC championship tournament play Wednesday facing host Alabama in a 4 p.m. CT match at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
