Knoxville, Tenn. - The Auburn track and field team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend for the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championships to be contested Friday thru Sunday at Tom Black Track at Laporte Stadium on the University of Tennessee campus.
The Tigers will have 25 men and 24 women competing in the three-day event, including 21 that will be competing at the conference level for the first time.
Auburn enters the meet with 15 athletes and two relay currently ranked among the top eight of the conference, led by sophomore All-American Natalliah Whyte who is third in the SEC and fifth nationally in the women's 200m with a time of 22.55. Men's All-American Nathon Allen is third in the men's 20m (20.39), while ranking eighth in the SEC at 400m (45.92). Allen won silver at 400m at the 2017 SEC Outdoor meet.
The school record holder in the javelin, junior Kylee Carter is third in the SEC with a best mark of 54.78m/179-9 set at the Penn Relays two weeks ago. Teammates Peyton Montgomery and Ashley Carter are seventh and ninth ranked, respectively, in the conference in the women's javelin.
Other women among the top eight in the SEC entering the weekend include hammer thrower Erin Perkins (fifth), senior triple jumper Jakayla Hand (fifth), discus thrower Ivana Muzaric (sixth), high jumper Skyler Daniel (eighth) and shot putter Tori McKinley (eighth). The women's 4x100m relay has the SEC's seventh best time.
On the men's side, All-American Akeem Bloomfield enters the weekend fourth at 400m (45.68), while the men's 4x400m relay is also fourth. Bloomfield, the SEC Indoor champion at 400m was third outdoors a year ago.
Auburn has a strong field entered in the men's javelin as freshman Cade Antonucci (fifth), senior school record holder Justin Carter (6th) and junior John Putnam (8th) will all look to score at the conference meet.
Hurdler Xavier Coakley will look to improve upon his seventh place seed in the men's 110m hurdles, after finishing 14th in 2017. Decathlete Chris Stone is currently fifth in the SEC in the event with 7229 points.
Sophomore All-American and NCAA Indoor runner up at 60m, Raheem Chambers is ninth in the SEC in the 100m dash. The Penn Relays champion two weeks ago, Chambers was seventh at SECs in 2017.
Friday's field and multi events will begin at 11 a.m. ET with the women's hammer throw. A light day on the track will begin at 3 p.m. ET with the women's 800m and will conclude at 10:15 p.m. with the men's 10K.
Day 1 and Day 2 of the meet will be televised by SEC Network+ beginning at 11 a.m. ET on Friday and 10:15 a.m. ET on Saturday. Sunday's final day will be televised by the SEC Network beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
