Nathon Allen posts world No. 6 time in 400m at Day 2 of SEC Outdoors

Knoxville, Tenn. - Auburn All-American Nathon Allen ran an electric 44.61 qualifying time in the men's 400m prelims, posting the nation's No. 2 time of 2018 and the world's No. 6 time this year to highlight Day 2 of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships at Tom Black Track. The sophomore's run was No. 3 all-time at Auburn and was the fastest qualifying time in the event.

Sophomore Akeem Bloomfield, the NCAA runner up indoors at 400m, finished third in the preliminaries with a season-best time of 45.06. The two will run in Sunday's finals at 6:10 p.m. CT.

Second-year sprinter Raheem Chambers posted a personal-best 10.15 in the prelims of the men's 100m to qualify for the finals. The Kingston, Jamaica native posted the second fastest time of four heats and will look to improve upon his seventh place finish as a freshman.

In the women's 100m dash, sophomore Natalliah Whyte recorded a personal-best 11.13 to advance in the No. 6 spot to the finals. A finalist also in the 200m, Whyte's 100 time is tied for the No. 6 all-time performance in school history and she becomes tied for the No. 3 performer at Auburn. Senior Jonielle Smith finished ninth in qualifying, in 11.23, one thousandth of a second (.001) from being the last finalist.

For the second day in a row, Auburn had three scorers in the javelin throw, this time from the Tiger women. Junior Kylee Carter finished fourth with a throw of 51.95m/170-5 and Peyton Montgomery was fifth at 48.32m/158-6. Carter's fourth place was the highest finish by a Tiger woman at SECs in the event since Katalin Mate's third place finish in 2006. Senior Kendra Mitchell posted a personal-best 48.15m/157-11 to finish seventh. The Auburn men's trio of Justin Carter, John Putnam and Cade Antonucci finished in the identically same position in Friday's men's javelin throw, finishing 4-5-7.

Junior Chris Stone was sixth in the decathlon with 7,062 points, the best finish by an Auburn athlete in the event at SECs since Parker Shearer was sixth in 2014. Over the 10 events, two day competition, Stone had the top high jump and pole vault efforts in the field.

Tori McKinley became Auburn's first freshman scorer at SEC Outdoors in the women's shot put since 2006 as she placed eighth with a throw of 15.57m/51-1. The last Tiger rookie to accomplish the feat was Katalin Mate 12 years ago.

Sophomore Silas Kipngetich finished fifth in the men's 3000m steeplechase in a PR time of 9:01.65 becoming Auburn's fifth consecutive scorer in the event in as many years.

Xavier Coakley advanced to Sunday's finals of the men's 110m hurdles with the sixth-fastest qualifying time of 13.86. It will be the junior's first appearance in SEC finals.

Senior distance runner Jay Spieler, who was on the trail end of a multi-runner collision during heat two of the men's 1500m, advanced to a 20-man finals that will be contested Sunday at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Thru 7 of 21 events, the Auburn men are tied for sixth with 18 points, while the women are in seventh place also with 18 points.

Sunday's final day will be televised by the SEC Network beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
