NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 7 Auburn men's golf team is tied for second after the first round of the NCAA Norman Regional. The Tigers are at even par through the opening 18 holes at the Jimmie Austin OU Club Monday afternoon.
Auburn is tied with Arkansas and North Florida, and is just five strokes back of the leaders Oklahoma at 5-under.
Senior Ben Schlottman and junior Trace Crowe are tied for fourth individually after posting rounds of 70 (-2) each. Schlottman racked up a team-high five birdies en route to his lowest round since April 9.
Crowe tallied two birdies on both the back and front nine while managing 12 pars in his first circuit of the par-72 course.
Freshman Wells Padgett is tied for 21st after shooting a 73 (+1). He was Auburn's most consistent golfer on the day with a team-best 13 pars to go along with two birdies and three bogeys.
Sophomore Jovan Rebula and freshman Brandon Mancheno rounded out the Tiger contingent in the opening round with scores of 75 (+3) apiece. Rebula notched three birdies on the front nine, while Mancheno tallied pars on every hole on the back nine.
No. 2 Oklahoma leads the field after the first round with a 283 (-5). Auburn, No. 15 Arkansas and North Florida are next with even-par rounds of 288, followed by San Diego State (+2), No. 23 Florida State (+5), UMKC (+5), Nevada (+6), BYU (+7), Pepperdine (+7), Virginia (+9), Sam Houston State (+13), Prairie View A&M (+27) and Navy (+35).
The Tigers are paired with Arkansas and Oklahoma for the second round of the NCAA Norman Regional Tuesday morning. Tee times begin 7:30 a.m. CT off the first tee box. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
