BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Auburn baseball redshirt senior infielder Luke Jarvis has been named to the 2018 SEC Baseball Community Service Team, the league announced Wednesday morning.
The SEC Community Service Team highlights a student-athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Along with his performance on the diamond during each of the last two seasons, the San Diego, Calif., native has been a strong representative of Auburn baseball and has made himself recognizable off the field through his service work in the community.
Along with being a volunteer for the Beat Bama Food Drive, Jarvis' biggest and most influential service effort involves visiting with and reading to a class of first graders at Dean Road Elementary. He began visiting with the class as a part of World Read Aloud Day and has continued to do so throughout the season. The class enjoyed Jarvis' company so much that a few members made a trip to Plainsman Park and got the chance to visit with the second baseman on the field postgame.
In two seasons on The Plains, Jarvis has played in 95 games and made 93 starts in the middle of the Auburn infield. He has turned in a career-high in runs scored and on-base percentage while matching his career best in doubles this season. Jarvis is also nearing career numbers in hits, RBI and stolen bases.
Jarvis and the Tigers finish out the regular season schedule with a three-game series against LSU (32-21, 14-13 SEC). First pitch in the series opener at Plainsman Park is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.
