STILLWATER, Okla. - Freshman Brandon Mancheno tied for the top spot at the NCAA Championships at 7-under overall before falling in a playoff to Augusta's Broc Everett Monday at Karsten Creek Golf Club.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native shot an even-par 72, forcing a playoff with Everett, who shot a 1-under 71. Mancheno took a par on the 18th hole - the playoff hole - while Everett carded a birdie.

"It was a great week," Mancheno said. "I wanted to focus on helping my team get to match play this week and we did that.

"The playoff was exciting. He made a good putt on me and I'm happy for him. I played alright and I had a chance to win so I'm very happy."

Mancheno's finish is the highest by an Auburn player since Chip Spratlin was the individual champion in 1995.

"Brandon is disappointed," head coach Nick Clinard said. "He felt like he made a couple 3-putts out there today and gave it away a little bit. He made a nice up-and-down birdie on the last hole to get into the clubhouse at 7-under. In a playoff, the guy just beat him. He made a beautiful wedge shot and putt. Sometimes you just get beat."

As a team, the seventh-ranked Tigers finished fifth - the first top-10 finish since 2003 - and moved on to match play. Auburn shot a 9-over 297 in its fourth circuit of the par-72 course.

"It was really difficult out there today as evident by the scores," Clinard said. "We shot 9-over and Texas shot the lowest round at 5-over. The guys just hung in there, persevered and battled the conditions. We came out in the end on the right side and we have a chance to play again tomorrow."

The Tigers are set to face No. 2 Oklahoma in the quarterfinals Tuesday morning off the 10th tee at 7:50 a.m. CT.

Sophomore Jovan Rebula tied for 21st at 2-over after carding a 4-over 76 in his fourth round.

Senior Ben Schlottman tied for 57th after a 5-over 77 Monday afternoon.

Junior Trace Crowe turned in a 3-over 75 and tied for 65th at 14-over, while freshman Wells Padgett notched a 2-over 72 en route to a tie for 77th at 20-over.

No. 1 Oklahoma State finished at the top spot at even par, followed by Duke (+8), No. 13 Texas Tech (+9), No. 2 Oklahoma (+11), No. 7 Auburn (+15), No. 8 Alabama (+16), No. 17 Texas (+16) and No. 3 Texas A&M (+17), who all made the final cut line and advanced to the match play competition of the NCAA Championships.

No. 4 Vanderbilt (+18) and Kent State (+19) missed the cut by one and two strokes, respectively.

The match play quarterfinals and semifinals both take place on Tuesday at 7 a.m. CT and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
