STILLWATER, Okla. - Auburn freshman Brandon Mancheno was named to the National All-Freshman Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Wednesday.
Mancheno is the first player in program history to earn a spot on the five-person team. He is joined by Georgia Tech's Noah Norton, John Pak of Florida State, Clemson's Turk Pettit and Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native boasted the lowest stroke average per round by a freshman in the Southeastern Conference at 70.6, which finished in the top 10 in the league as a whole. The stroke average is second in the Tiger record books for a single season all-time.
Mancheno recently finished in a tie for first at the NCAA Championships, the highest by an Auburn golfer since Chip Spratlin was the individual champion in 1995.
The SEC Freshman of the Year carded a team-high nine top-20 finishes, including seven in the top 10 during the 2017-18 season.
Mancheno logged an Auburn-best 25 rounds at or below par with 19 coming below par during his first campaign with the Tigers. His 19 sub-par rounds tied for the third most in single-season program history.
Mancheno was the top finisher for No. 7 Auburn in six tournaments and went 4-1 against his selected opponent in match play.
