Recent Auburn graduate Kelli Murphy earned a victory in her first post-collegiate tournament, running away from the field to win the South Carolina Women's Amateur Championship, which concluded Thursday.
Playing on her home course, the Elgin, S.C., native shot rounds of 72-66-71=209 (-7) to claim an 11-shot victory at the Members' Course at Woodcreek just outside Columbia.
Murphy's second-round 66 on her 22nd birthday Wednesday included a hole-in-one – the third of her career – on the par-3 15th. All three of her career aces have come on that hole. She also played the tournament wearing one golf shoe and one sandal because of a broken toe.
In other action in summer events for Auburn players, rising sophomore Mychael O'Berry and incoming freshman Chandler Rosholt competed in the Women's Southern Amateur Championship, played in Tuscaloosa last week. In the stroke play qualifying round, O'Berry tied for 8th place with a 75, and Rosholt was one shot back at 76, tied for 14th.
Both players dropped their first-round matches in the championship bracket, but O'Berry won three matches in the consolation bracket before falling in the consolation final. Rosholt made it to the consolation quarterfinal.
