AUBURN, Ala. – Named a coach for the 2018 17U National Team Development Program (NTDP) in April, Butch Thompson will serve as the Stars pitching coach in next week's USA Baseball Stars vs. Stripes series.

The two teams will compete in a four-game series with games one and two scheduled for Sunday, July 22 and Monday, July 23 at Northwestern University's Rocky and Bernice Miller Park. Game three will be played Wednesday, July 25 at the Chicago Cub's Wrigley Field, and the series finale will take place the following day at the Milwaukee Brewer's Miller Park.

Thompson will make his second USA Baseball coaching appearance at the 2018 17U NTDP after previously serving as a coach two years ago. Thompson will join Texas head coach David Pierce (manager), Georgia Tech assistant coach Mike Nickeas (position coach), and former MLB veteran Ernie Young (position coach) on the Stars' coaching staff.

In three season at the helm of the Auburn baseball program, Thompson has led the Tigers to a 103-82 overall record (.558), back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in 15 seasons and the second NCAA Super Regional appearance in program history.

With a 13-4 win against Northeastern to open the NCAA Raleigh Regional on June 1, Thompson became the fourth head coach in program history to earn his 100th win in just his third season with the team.
