Rebula tabbed SGA Amateur of the Month

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rising junior Jovan Rebula was selected as the Amateur of the Month for June, the Southern Golf Association (SGA) announced Friday.

Rebula captured the 2018 British Amateur Championship at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in Scotland by a 3&2 score over Robin Dawson of Ireland in the finals of match play. With the win, Rebula earned exemptions into the 2018 British Open, the 2019 Masters and the 2019 U.S. Open.

He is currently the No. 39 ranked amateur in the world by Scratch Players and No. 62 by World Amateur Golf Ranking.

The George, South Africa native was named Second Team All-SEC and PING All-Southeast Region last season. Rebula boasted a 71.3 stroke average per round, the eighth-lowest in single-season program history, and had a team-best 23 rounds at or below par.

He also turned in 10 cards in the 60s and tallied seven top-20 finishes, including four inside the top 10.

Winners of the SGA's monthly award are determined by an international panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin-Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Alice Hewson, and more recently Doc Redman & Doug Ghim.
