AUBURN, Ala. - Coming off its second super regional appearance in program history, Auburn baseball finished the 2018 season ranked as high as No. 9 in the final USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

The No. 9 national ranking is the Tigers' highest at the end of the season since also finishing the 1998 campaign ranked ninth by Baseball America.

Auburn (43-23, 15-15 SEC) also finished the season ranked No. 10 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), No. 13 by Baseball America and D1 Baseball, and No. 15 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and Perfect Game.

This season marks the seventh time Auburn has finished inside the top 10. The other seasons include 1967 (No. 2), 1976 (No. 8), 1994 (No. 8), 1995 (No. 9), 1997 (No. 5) and 1998 (No. 9).

In the third season under head coach Butch Thompson, the Tigers turned in the most wins in a season since 2010 and tied for the seventh most in program history.

After its best showing at the SEC Tournament since 2003, Auburn swept through the Raleigh Regional by outscoring its opponents 40-12 and pounding 50 hits in three lopsided wins.

The Tigers made back-to-back regional appearances for the first time in 15 years and advanced to a super regional for the first time since 1999. The team ultimately forced a decisive third game against the No. 1 Florida and came within one run and three outs of its first trip to the College World Series since 1997.
