AUBURN, Ala. – When thinking about the pair of setters on the Auburn volleyball team, head coach Rick Nold has one thing in mind.
"It's their work ethic," Nold said. "When looking at this position, you see a great deal of work ethic and talent. This is going to be a great group to follow the next couple of years."
The lone returner from last year's squad is sophomore Morgan Kull. The St. Charles, Ill., product served as back up to four-year starter Alexa Filley last season and has shown not only improvement in her skill set, but a dedication to the game that has lifted her into a leadership role.
"Morgan is someone that defines work ethic," Nold said. "She is in the gym every day, trying to become not just a better setter, but a better overall volleyball player. She's made big improvements in the spring and continues to feel more comfortable on the court."
Joining Kull is incoming freshman Mica Allison. Standing at 6-2, the White Heath, Ill., native brings a plethora of talent and experience with her to the Plains.
"Mica comes here with unique experiences in this sport," Nold said. "It is obvious she is a very talented player, but also knows she has a lot to work on. She is determined to get better every day and wants to be the best not just on the team, but on the national level as well."
Allison came to Auburn as an early enrollee in the spring and has been busy since. She earned the starting role for the 2018 USA Volleyball Women's Junior National Team, guiding the Americans to the NORCECA title and a berth in the 2019 FIVB U20 World Championship.
In addition, Allison was a part of the USA Volleyball National Youth Team in 2017. She finished her senior campaign as the No. 7 overall recruit in the country, picking up AVCA All-America honors.
It's no question the pair have big shoes with two-time All-SEC honoree Filley no longer eligible. However, with combination of work ethic and determination from Kull and Allison, it's safe to say the Tigers are in good hands.
