On Sunday, former Auburn golfer Marta Sanz Barrio shot 7-under (65) in the final round to come from behind and win the 2018 FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship, the latest event on the Symetra Tour. She finished at 13-under par for the weekend (69-69-65) and took home $15,000 in prize money for her efforts.

While at Auburn, Sanz Barrio was twice named second-team All-SEC and also made the All-SEC freshman team her first year. As a sophomore, she won the Lady Tar Heel Invitational, and she ranks seventh all-time in program history with a career stroke average of 74.61 following her junior season.
The Spain native, who helped her country win the European Ladies' Amateur Team Championship in 2013, jumped 43 spots and is currently No. 29 of 200 on the Symetra Tour money list this season. The top 10 at the end of the year earn their LPGA card.
Sanz Barrio's older sister, Patricia Sanz Barrio – who also played at Auburn and was a part of that team championship in 2013 – served as Marta's caddy for the tournament.
"She played amazing, especially on the back nine," Patricia told Symetra Tour Communications. "It just felt like she made everything. It felt like every hole she had the chance to birdie from everywhere."
Marta will return to the course August 30 when she will compete in the tour's next event, the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
