AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn's first appearance in the Preseason WNIT, an SEC/Big 12 Challenge showdown with Oklahoma and home games against six of the SEC's NCAA Tournament teams from last season highlight the 2018-19 Auburn women's basketball schedule, released Thursday by head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.
The Tigers will play at least 14 home games during the season – eight SEC games and at least six non-conference contests – with the potential for more games at Auburn Arena in November in the Preseason WNIT. And as previously announced, the Tigers will also play host to Oklahoma in the 2018 SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Sunday, Dec. 2.
In conference play, the SEC's best will visit The Plains. Six NCAA Tournament participants from 2018 – Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M – will come to Auburn Arena after the Tigers faced all six on the road last season. Auburn will also face Kentucky and Alabama at home this season.
The season begins with its earliest start date ever as Grambling State visits Auburn on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Three days later, the Preseason WNIT tips off as the Tigers host Nicholls State on Friday, Nov. 9. Depending on the result of that game, Auburn would play either New Mexico or Texas State on Sunday, Nov. 11, with location and game time to be determined. Should Auburn continue to advance, the WNIT semifinal game would be Nov. 14 or 15, and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 18. Game times, opponents and locations are all to be determined.
November wraps up with a home game against Louisiana-Lafayette (Nov. 25) and a road trip to New Orleans for a return game at Xavier University of Louisiana (Nov. 28). December will feature a pair of big games before final exams with Oklahoma (Dec. 2) at home and a trip to Philadelphia to take on St. Joseph's (Dec. 6). The week before Christmas will be a busy one with four games in seven days – home vs. Samford (Dec. 16), games against Coastal Carolina (Dec. 18) and North Carolina (Dec. 20) at a tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a road game at Elon (Dec. 22). Non-conference play concludes Saturday, Dec. 29, at home against Alabama State.
SEC play for Auburn begins with the same opponent it saw last in 2018 – the Tennessee Lady Vols – on Thursday, Jan. 3, at Auburn Arena. It is one of three home games in January, along with a Monday night tilt with Mississippi State (Jan. 14) and another Thursday clash with Texas A&M (Jan. 24). The Tigers will face road trips to Florida, Alabama, Vanderbilt Missouri and Ole Miss in the first month of conference play.
Two straight home games open February with Georgia (Feb. 3) and Kentucky (Feb. 7) visiting Auburn Arena. A pair of road trips to Arkansas and Tennessee give way to three straight home games down the stretch – Alabama (Feb. 17), Missouri (Feb. 24) and South Carolina (Feb. 28) – before closing out the regular season at LSU on March 3.
The SEC Tournament runs March 6-10 in Greenville, S.C., and the NCAA Tournament begins March 22.
