AUBURN, Ala. – Junior right-hander Ryan Watson has been named the top 2019 MLB Draft prospect from the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League.
Watson played for the Pampano Beach Clippers this summer and posted a 2-1 record with a 4.11 ERA in eight appearances and five starts. He struck out 35 batters in 35.0 innings pitched.
A local product from Auburn High School, Watson was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 39th round of the 2016 MLB Draft but elected to enroll at Auburn.
Entering his junior season, he has made 29 career appearances, including four starts, and has turned in a 1-1 record with a 5.06 ERA. The 6-foot-5 righty made 22 appearances and was the Tigers most-used freshman arm in 2017, striking out 22 batters in 31.1 innings of work. He made seven appearances and two starts as a sophomore and struck out nine batters in 11.1 innings while turning in a 4.76 ERA.
