AUBURN, Ala. – Junior midfielder Bri Folds has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for the second straight week, the publication announced Tuesday.
Folds, who has helped lead Auburn to its second 4-0-0 start since 2006, is the only player recognized from the Southeastern Conference this week. She is also the only player in the country to be named to the National Team of the Week twice this season.
The Lakeland, Florida, native led the team with six points on four assists and a game-winning goal last week.
"Bri had another great offensive performance last weekend with four assists and the game-winner on Sunday," Hoppa said. "We are excited to see her recognized by Top Drawer for the second straight week."
After assisting on a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 6-0 win vs. UAB Friday, Folds returned to the pitch two days later and matched her career high with four points, marking her second four-point performance of the season.
Tied with Louisiana, 1-1, in the second half, the midfielder turned at the left corner of the 18-yard box and chipped a left-footer over the mitt of an outstretched Louisiana goalkeeper and into the back of the net to give Auburn the lead for good. Her goal sparked two more late scores for the Tigers to put the match away, both of which she assisted on.
Folds leads the Tigers in points (11) and assists (five) and is tied for the team lead in goals (three) through the first four contests of the season. She also leads the SEC and ranks second in the country in assists while registering second in the league and fourth in the nation in points.
Folds headlines an offensive unit that leads the country in points (53) and assists (21) and ranks second in the nation in goals (16). Auburn's 16 goals through four matches are its most since 2000 and second most in program history.
Auburn heads West for a pair of Labor Day Weekend road contests against Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State Friday and Sunday, respectively.
