AUBURN, Ala. – Taylor Rowland of the Auburn volleyball team was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the Southeastern Conference office announced Monday.
Rowland, a 6-3 outside hitter from Charlotte, N.C., had another outstanding weekend for the Tigers, earning a spot on the Kansas Invitational All-Tournament team. She led the squad with a 4.36 kills/set average, helping Auburn go 2-1 at the competitive tournament with wins over host Kansas and American.
Against Loyola Marymount in the tournament-opening match Friday, Rowland continued her hot streak at the net and went 13-1-25 for a .480 hitting percentage in the three-set match against the Lions.
Rowland followed with a career-best 23 kills vs. the Jayhawks in front of the sold-out home crowd. She became the first Tiger this season to have 20 or more kills. Rowland capped the weekend with another double-digit kill performance, having 12 in the sweep of American. She led the Tigers in kills in all three matches.
Her performances this past weekend moved her up in the SEC ranks, standing 8th with a 3.68 kills/set average on the season. That average is first on the team. In addition, her 92 kills on the year is a team-best.
