Women's tennis opens fall season at Big 5 Challenge

AUBURN, Ala. – The 39th season of Auburn women's tennis gets underway this weekend as the Tigers travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for the Big 5 Challenge, hosted by TCU. The tournament runs Thursday-Sunday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
 
The Tigers will take six players to Fort Worth – senior Caroline Turner, junior Taylor Russo, sophomores Madeline Meredith, Jaeda Daniel and Lindsay Song, and freshman Annabella Bowen.
 
Daniel enters the fall season ranked No. 39 in singles in the preseason ITA rankings. She went 24-15 overall last season and qualified for the NCAA Championships in singles.
 
Tournament play begins Thursday afternoon with doubles matches, followed by singles and doubles play Friday. Matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday as well, with championship matches to take place Sunday.
 
Head coach Lauren Spencer enters her eighth season at the helm of the Auburn program, where she has amassed a record of 129-77. She has led the Tigers to six straight NCAA Tournament appearances and three straight 20-win seasons.
