AUBURN, Ala. – The 2018 fall schedule is set to begin this weekend for the Auburn softball team at Jane B. Moore Field. The Tigers play host to Wallace State CC-Dothan on Friday with first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m. CT before welcoming Northwest Florida State CC and Wallace State CC-Hanceville for a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
"We're looking forward to this weekend," head coach Mickey Dean said. "It's exciting. The kids finally get to go out on the field and put things together against an opponent instead of between themselves. We'll take some of the things we've been working on and use them in a game situation.
"We're looking forward to that and we're excited about it. It gives us an idea of where we've improved as well as what we need to work on. Our motto this year is chop wood, carry water."
Auburn will be led on the field by the core leadership group of its five seniors: Bree Fornis, Makayla Martin, Casey McCrackin, Morgan Podany and Kendall Veach.
The Tigers return seven players who started at least 40 games, headlined by All-SEC infielder Taylon Snow.
Martin brings back the most experience in the circle with 134 innings last season. She had a 1.36 ERA, good for the second-lowest in single-season program history.
Following the final game on both Friday and Sunday, there will be an autograph session for fans in attendance.
"We're excited to play in front of the Auburn family again," Dean said. "They were so supportive throughout the spring and we're thankful to have them behind us."
As with all home fall games, admission is free to the public. There will be limited concessions serving bottled beverages, assorted candy and snacks.
The fall games will not be streamed, but fans can stay updated through the Auburn softball Twitter account: @AuburnSoftball.
