AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn volleyball faces another tough road swing this weekend, traveling to Lawrence, Kan., for the Kansas Invitational, Sept. 7-8, in the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.
The Tigers kick off the weekend with a 10 a.m. CT match vs. Loyola Marymount Friday and cap the day with a 7 p.m. CT contest against host Kansas. Auburn closes out the weekend Saturday vs. American at 11 a.m. CT.
"Top to bottom, there is a lot of talent this weekend in Kansas," head coach Rick Nold said. "We've talked about how we need to learn something every week in order to improve and this weekend will be another good learning experience for this young team. There is a lot of variety with the three teams we're facing and it will be very beneficial for the upcoming SEC schedule. We're excited to see what this group can do during what is probably our toughest weekend to date."

- Auburn traveled to Indianapolis for the Top Dawg Challenge, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, hosted by Butler in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Tigers opened with a sweep of the host Bulldogs (25-23, 25-19, 25-18), but followed with a four-set loss to Illinois State Saturday (15-25, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25). Auburn rebounded with another sweep, topping Eastern Illinois in three sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-14).
- Senior outside hitter Brenna McIlroy and junior Gwyn Jones were placed on the all-tournament team.
- McIlroy finished with a 3.40 kills/set average, having double-digit kills in all matches. In the second set vs. Butler, McIlroy notched her 1,000th career kill on the Plains.
- Jones put together a 2.60 kills/set average and had a .415 hitting percentage on the right side for Auburn. She reached a season-best 12 kills against EIU and notched a career-high .667 hitting clip vs. the Panthers.
- Freshman Taylor Rowland had a solid weekend for the Tigers, having double-digit kills in all matches. She picked up a career-best 14 kills against Eastern Illinois and finished with a .545 attack percentage vs. host Butler.
- Freshman setter Mica Allison boosted her assists average after totaling 40 or more assists in two of Auburn's matches. She notched a career-best 43 against EIU, while picking up her first double-double vs. Illinois State (40a, 11d).
- Allison is third in the Southeastern Conference with a 10.94 assists/set average.
- Freshman Bella Rosenthall has earned the starting nod at libero in all five matches for the Tigers. The Yorktown, Ind., product leads the team with a 3.88 digs/set average. That mark ranks ninth in the SEC.
- Auburn's 2018 schedule boasts 10 2017 NCAA Tournament participants.
- Head Coach Rick Nold stands at 111-103 in his eighth season on the Plains.
- Auburn returns five of seven starters from the 2017 season.
- The 2018 Auburn volleyball incoming class is ranked the seventh-best freshman class in the nation.

SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
- The Loyola Marymount Lions are 5-1 on the early season. The squad is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Utah State Tournament in Logan, Utah. The Lions opened with a five-set loss to No. 24 Cal Poly before sweeping host Utah State and Texas Rio Grande Valley.
- Senior Sara Kovac leads the team with a 4.19 kills/set average. She totaled a season-high 23 kills in the loss to Cal Poly.
- Senior Kekai Whitford has a team-best 4.09 digs/set average, having double-digit digs in all matches played.
- Whitford and junior setter Tess Reid were placed on the Utah State All-Tournament team.
SCOUTING KANSAS
- The Kansas Jayhawks stand at 3-2 on the year. The team traveled to Lexington, Ky., last weekend for the Bluegrass Battle and opened with a pair of five-set wins vs. Dayton and College of Charleston. The Jayhawks fell to host and nationally-ranked Kentucky Saturday night, 3-2.
- Junior outside hitter Ashley Smith has played in all 24 sets for the Jayhawks and has a 2.79 kills/set average. Classmate Jada Burse holds a 2.09 average on the outside.
- Junior middle blockers Zoe Hill and Mmachi Nwoke are average 1.14 and 1.13 blocks/set, respectively.
- Freshman Lacey Angello leads the team with a 4.08 digs/set mark.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
- The American Eagles are 3-4 so far on the season and face Delaware State Wednesday night. The squad is coming off a 1-3 weekend in California, opening with a loss vs. Cal Baptist. The team followed with a sweep of San Francisco, before picking up a pair of losses to Fresno State and Saint Mary's.
- Senior Aleksandra Kazala earned Patriot League Player of the Week recognition Monday after averaging 3.65 kills/set and 2.59 digs/set in California.
