AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn linebacker Deshaun Davis made the cut as one of 20 quarter-finalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy on Thursday.

Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ronnie Lott, the award is given to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the year. It's the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and personal character attributes of the player.

Through the first seven games, Davis currently leads the team and is No. 4 in the SEC with 63 tackles. The senior captain is now up to 213 tackles for his career and recently became only the 15th Auburn player since 2000 to record 200 career tackles.

"He's our leader on defense," Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown said. "When we're on the field, he's making the calls and flying around doing his thing."

Davis, one of three SEC players to be selected as a quarter-finalist, was named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week last month after he had 13 tackles and four tackles for loss against LSU. He was nominated for the same honor two weeks later but didn't win despite finishing with double-digit tackles yet again.

Off the field, Davis graduated from Auburn in December and earned his bachelor's degree.
