Amanda Ronan, Auburn Media Relations Intern
When going through the recruiting process, freshman Emma Brown was looking for a school that really felt like home. What she enjoyed most about Auburn was while it had a big school feel, it also had a close-knit community. In fact, in her time that she's spent here just since the summer, she feels she has truly found her best friends and a special family for when she's on the Plains.
The Zanesville, Ohio, product came to Auburn after a successful summer on the circuit. She was world champion at the 2018 AQYHA Ford Youth World Championship, winning the top prize in trail. She also finished the AQYHA year as high point winner in Youth Trail and Youth Performance Halter Geldings. In addition, she captured another world title in the event at the NBSA World Championship.
Brown is looking forward to helping her team in any possible way this season whether it's competing or just being a helping hand to the team in their journey to success.
Q: When did you know Auburn was the school for you?
A: I visited a lot of schools before I decided on Auburn. When I visited here, it just felt like home. I like the big school feel, but the small town atmosphere. The coaches were amazing, and I just knew that this is where I wanted to be.
Q: What will you miss most about home?
A: My horse, Brett. We don't bring our horses with us and we ride the ones that are here, so I miss my horse a lot.
Q: What's your favorite memory with equestrian?
A: It would be when I won the world show this year and I set arena records. It was really cool and exciting to finally achieve that goal and set a record while doing it. I was really excited about that.
Q: How do you plan to help your team this year?
A: I plan to just work hard and contribute in any way that I can whether it's competing or just helping out wherever I can to help the team.
Q: What's your biggest goal athletically while being at Auburn?
A: With my team, win SEC and Nationals in the same year. That'd be really cool.
Q: What's your biggest goal academically while being at Auburn?
A: I was at the football game recently where I saw my teammates go down on the field who were recognized as Academic Top Tigers, and that's something I would want to be recognized for at a game.
Q: What's something that the Auburn Family doesn't know about you?
A: I was actually a varsity cheerleader in high school. My school was really cool. We could play two sports and I put equestrian as my primary sport, so if I had to miss something for cheerleading because of equestrian it wasn't a big deal. My high school didn't have an equestrian team, but they recognized it was my primary sport.
Q: If you could play any other sport at Auburn, what sport would you play and why?
A: I would probably play basketball. I played basketball in high school too. I'm friends with a lot of the girls on the basketball team so I always talk to them about how I used to play.
Q: If you could hire any actress to play you in a movie about your life, who would you hire and why?
A: I can't think of a specific actress, but I can think of a character or a role. It would be Blair Waldorf [Gossip Girl] because she's definitely my spirit animal. She doesn't look anything like me, but I'm a lot like her. Or I would say the main blonde character from 'Bring it On', Kirsten Dunst. I look like her a little bit.
Q: What do you like about your event versus other events?
A: I would say I like the fact that we get to ride in prettier clothes. I like wearing all the makeup, the jewelry and the belt buckle. It makes it more fun. I think our outfits are really cool and unique.
Q: Describe what 'War Eagle' means to you.
A: To me, 'War Eagle' means more than just a saying. 'War Eagle' means family, and since I've been here, I've found my best friends and a family away from my family at home.
Q: If you could give a message to the Auburn Family, what would it be?
A: Thank you for supporting the equestrian program because it's definitely a sport that not a lot of people understand. The idea that we have a great fan base and great donors who are willing to donate to help us get better is really special. We really appreciate those who donate not only their money, but time, because it really is helping us expand and become better than we already are.
