AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn gymnastics team will host its annual Halloween intra-squad scrimmage Friday, Nov. 2, in the McWhorter Center beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT.
"This is a very talented group and we are excited to start showing our fans what they are capable of," head coach Jeff Graba said. "The annual Halloween intra-squad is always a good measuring tool for us and I think this year's team will exceed our expectations. I hope we pack the McWhorter Center with as many fans as we can to cheer this team on!"
The 2019 edition of Auburn gymnastics brings back a wealth of experience as the squad did not lose a single routine from 2018. Leading the pack is a group of seniors in Abby Milliet, Samantha Cerio, Taylor Krippner and A'Miracal Phillips. All four have been major contributors throughout their career, while Milliet (beam) and Cerio (bars) return as NCAA participants from last season.
The junior crew boasts five talented Tigers that have been in the Auburn lineup since their freshman campaigns. Gracie Day held a spot in three of four events last year – vault, bars, floor. Katie Becker brought depth on vault and bars, while Emma Slappey was a mainstay on beam and floor. Kendal Moss had a solid year on bars last year and Skyler Sheppard returns from an early injury with a lot of power and grace in three of four events.
Drew Watson highlights the sophomore crew that provided solid routines all season. Watson competed at the NCAA Championship as an individual in the all-around. Classmates Jada Glenn and Ashley Smith brought power on vault and floor, respectively, while Allie Riddle and Meredith Sylvia each provided solid routines on beam all season.
Fans will get a first glimpse at the large group of freshmen on the squad. In addition to redshirt freshman Sydney Bassett, the newcomers include Sabrina Cheney, Molly Frack, Derrian Gobourne, Reid Schaefer, Mia Schlarbaum and Sydney Wrighte.
The Tigers have five meets in Auburn Arena this season with three against the SEC. That includes match-ups with LSU (Jan. 11), Georgia (Jan. 25) and Arkansas (Feb. 15).
