AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn softball team continued its fall exhibition schedule with a victory over Gulf Coast State College Friday night at Jane B. Moore Field.
"I thought we were ready to play," head coach Mickey Dean said. "It's like I tell them, 'You put on the uniforms and the lights come on, that's not a day that you're going to waste as an individual or as a team.' We've got to get to that point where we don't waste those days. We don't even waste a pitch. Those are the fun days and you only get so many of those."
The foursome of Ashlee Swindle, Makayla Martin, Chardonnay Harris and Lexie Handley led the charge in the circle, combining for 11 strikeouts over seven shutout innings.
Swindle picked up the start and went two innings without allowing a hit. The Jasper, Ala. native struck out a pair while allowing just one Commodore to reach base.
Martin came on for Swindle in the third and tossed two innings, surrendering just one hit with three strikeouts.
Harris and Handley combined to finish the final three innings and struck out six to close things out in the circle.
Auburn was paced offensively by Casey McCrackin, Morgan Podany and Abby Tissier.
McCrackin laced a pair of extra-base hits to both sides of the field, while driving in a run.
Podany drove in a pair of runs on a fielder's choice and later smacked a double to extend the Tigers' lead.
Tissier unloaded on the first pitch that she saw and deposited it over the left-field wall for a home run.
Justus Perry also drove in a run with a hard-hit single back up the middle.
Auburn returns to action on Sunday with games against North Georgia and Valdosta State. First pitch of the doubleheader from Jane B. Moore Field is set for 1 p.m. CT.
