AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Brenna McIlroy of the Auburn volleyball team was placed on the SEC Community Service Team, the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. It looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts. This year marks the 16th annual volleyball squad.
McIlroy, a Garland, Texas, native, has been very active during her time on the Plains. The special education major has worked with the Lee County Autism Resource and Advocacy, a non-profit organization for families with kids on the spectrum. In addition, she has worked with the program's Camp C.A.R.E (Camp Autism Respite & Education) every summer at Children's Harbor on Lake Martin.
McIlroy and her team has spent time at the BraveHeart Center for Place and Purpose in Auburn, teaching the individuals at the center the sport of volleyball and spending time working on fitness with the program.
In addition, McIlroy has been a part of the downtown Trick or Treat festival in Auburn and has sponsored a child with her team through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. She has also been a part of the BIG Event every year, working with fellow college students and providing community service tasks within the city of Auburn.
