AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's basketball team looks to build on a big season-opening win as the Tigers host Nicholls State Friday night in the opening round of the Preseason Women's NIT.
Game time is set for 6 p.m. CT at Auburn Arena. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Auburn men's team, who hosts Washington at 8:30 p.m.
Gates will open at 5 p.m., and tickets for both games will be accepted for admission throughout the women's game. Tickets for the women's game will be sold until halftime of that game; after that, remaining men's tickets will be on sale.
Auburn (1-0) cruised past Grambling Tuesday night in the opener for both teams, 97-48. It was the highest scoring output for the Tigers in nearly 10 years, and six players finished in double figures as the Tigers shot 53.5 percent from the field. Senior Janiah McKay and sophomore Unique Thompson both recorded double-doubles in the win.
Nicholls (0-1) dropped its opener on the road Tuesday at No. 4 Baylor, 100-39. The Colonels were the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament champions and won a program-record 19 games last season.
This is the first appearance for Auburn in the Preseason WNIT. A win for the Tigers would advance them to the quarterfinals, where they would either travel to New Mexico or play host to Texas State on Sunday. Details about that game will be announced when it becomes available.
Andy Burcham and Larry DiChiara will have the call of Friday's game on WTGZ 93.9 FM and online at AuburnTigers.com. Fans can also hear their call on the SEC Network + broadcast, available at WatchESPN.com and via the ESPN app on mobile devices.
