AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn gymnastics team will enter the 2019 season at No. 14, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced Monday afternoon.
"The preseason poll is always fun because they can give a general feeling of the other coaches in the country," head coach Jeff Graba said. "Being 14th is basically saying that we are expected to take up right where we left off last year. I always look at this poll as the real kickoff to season so let the games begin!"
Two Southeastern Conference teams rank in the Top 5, while all eight schools rank in the Top 20. Defending national champion UCLA is No. 1 with Oklahoma (No. 2), Florida (No. 3), LSU (No. 4) and Utah (No. 5) rounding out the Top 5. Alabama and Georgia come in at Nos. 6 and 7, while Kentucky is 10th. Arkansas (No. 12) and Missouri (No. 19) are the other SEC schools ranked.
Auburn kicks off the 2019 season hosting No. 29 Iowa, Jan. 4, in Auburn Arena. The Tigers and the Hawkeyes will go head-to-head at 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
The Tigers have five meets in Auburn Arena this season with three against the SEC. That includes match-ups with LSU (Jan. 11), Georgia (Jan. 25) and Arkansas (Feb. 15). The squad will cap the 2019 regular season at home with a contest vs. Air Force (March 15).
