Auburn women's tennis signs three in early period

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's tennis team has added three top prospects for the 2019-20 season, head coach Lauren Spencer announced Friday.
 
The Tigers will welcome Rosie Garcia Gross (New York, N.Y.); Selin Ovunc (Ankara, Turkey) and Caraline Scheufler (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) to the team next fall.
 
"This is a very talented group of players that will be joining our team," Spencer said. "We're proud to sign such a strong and diverse class to add to our program on the rise. Auburn women's tennis is already strong, but this group makes us even stronger moving forward."

Rosie Garcia Gross
Hometown: New York, N.Y.
 
Highlights: Rated a 5-star recruit and the No. 9 overall prospect by TennisRecruiting.net … Has a UTR of 11 … Ranked No. 57 in the USTA Girls 18 rankings … Won the doubles event at the South Carolina ITF Juniors tournament in October … Won the singles title at the USTA National Level 3 event in May … Won the doubles title and was runner-up in singles at the USTA National Level 2 tournament in May.
 


Selin Ovunc
Hometown: Ankara, Turkey
 
Highlights: Ranked No. 79 internationally among junior girls by the ITF … No. 1-ranked player in Turkey … Competed in the Junior Championships at Wimbledon in July … Competed in the main draw at the Roland Garros Junior French Championships … Won the DKS ITF Juniors singles main draw title in January in Kolkata, India … Has a UTR of 11.
 


Caraline Scheufler
Hometown: Gulf Breeze, Fla.
 
Highlights: A 4-star recruit ranked No. 239 nationally … Will join the Tigers as a walk-on.
