AUBURN, Ala. – Alison Maillard finished second in her event and Logan Andrews collected his second postseason qualifying score of the year as action continued at the Auburn Diving Invitational on Tuesday at the Martin Aquatics Center.
Maillard scored a 300.70 in finals of the women's 1-meter competition to finish second behind LSU's Elizabeth Cui (318.80). Cui and Maillard had also finished 1-2 during prelims, with Cui scoring a 302.35 and Maillard a 296.40.
"Alison did two really consistent lists on 1-meter and competed a lot better than what she did on 3-meter, but she's a little more confident and comfortable on that," Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Anytime you go over 300 points on 1-meter, that's a good list."
Ruthie Jerger narrowly missed a season-best with a 208.65 in prelims but then achieved the highest score or her career one session later, scoring a 217.40 to finish 11th.
Andrews, a sophomore, posted a season-best 337.50 to finish fifth on the 3-meter and earn his second Zone Qualifying score of the season. He had scored a 304.40 during prelims to qualify ninth.
"That was good for Logan," Shaffer said. "We need him to be a little bit higher and there are some corrections that we've been working on that he has to buy in to making and he can raise his score a lot better than that."
Conner Pruitt had led the men in the prelims with a 332.20, which included a 70.00 on his reverse three-and-a-half tuck, which he competed for the first time. That qualified him fifth out of prelims. He then scored a 318.60 in finals, which included a 76.50 on his final dive, to finish seventh.
"Conner learned a new dive last week and he came away with 70 points and then he did a two-and-a-half double twist for 70-plus points too, but in between it was a little bit rough," Shaffer said. "Tonight he wasn't on his game. He's been training well but he'll learn from this experience and get better."
Senior Justin Checchin was 12th out of prelims with a 264.95 and then scored a season-best 271.40 in finals to finish 13th.
LSU's Juan Hernandez won the men's event with a 447.30 and was followed by South Carolina's Anton Jenkins (421.95).
The competition concludes Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the platform competitions.
