Though she may be the smallest on the 2019 Auburn gymnastics roster, freshman Mia Schlarbaum brings big ambition to the Tiger squad this season. Competing for Rochester Gymnastics before coming to the Plains, Schlarbaum finished third in the all-around at 2016 JO Regional and was a 2016 National qualifier.
 
Schlarbaum, who hails from Victor, N.Y., is looking forward to her season here at Auburn and accomplishing her many goals in all aspects of her college career.
 
Q: What made you want to come to Auburn?
A: I really wanted to come to Auburn not only for the gymnastics, but also the school. I just loved the campus. I loved everything about it and I felt like I was at home as soon as I came on campus.
 
Q: What are your goals academically and athletically while being here at Auburn?
A: My goals athletically are to help the team in any way that I can and do the best that I can. Academically, I want to graduate and being a physician's assistant.
 
Q: What's your major and why do you want to pursue that major?
A: It's biomedical sciences because want to be a physician's assistant. I want to pursue that because of all my injuries from gymnastics and surgeries I've had.
 
Q: How did you start doing gymnastics?
A: My mom put me in gymnastics when I was two because I had so much energy around the house as a kid.
 
Q: What's your favorite event to compete and why?
A: I'd probably say beam because it's my best event and I love it the most.
 
Q: What do you miss most about being home?
A: I definitely miss my family and friends. I also miss the snow because I like to ski.
 
Q: If you could have one super power what would it be and why?
A: Probably to read minds, just so I could know what everyone is thinking.
 
Q: What do you consider to be your biggest gymnastics achievement so far?
A: I would definitely say being here at Auburn.
 
Q: What do you do in your spare time other than gymnastics?
A: I love to be outside, so anything outdoors. I love to swim, go to the beach, ski in the winter.
