AUBURN, Ala. – The fall Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking for the 2019 matches were released this week, and the No. 11 Auburn women's golf program had two players ranked in the top 20 for the International team with Kaleigh Telfer at No. 7 and Julie McCarthy at No. 17.
The International team will consist of 12 men's and 12 women's golfers. The first six from each side are selected using the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking, and the remaining six spots are then divided into four committee sections, a coach's pick and The R&A Scholars Tournament champions.
Telfer, a native of South Africa, is coming of an individual championship in the Battle at the Beach where she shot three straight rounds under par (69-69-70) to finish at 5-under (208) for the tournament. The sophomore has shot par or better in seven of her 10 rounds this season, and her individual scoring average (71.20) is the lowest by an Auburn player in the fall semester since Cydney Clanton in 2010.
Telfer, who represented her country at the World Amateur Team Championships this summer, is currently ranked No. 18 nationally per Golfstat's NCAA player ranking,
McCarthy enjoyed a breakthrough performance at the Battle at the Beach last month where she finished fourth overall with a three-round score of 212 (-1) and shot a career-low 67 (-4) in the second round. The sophomore has shot five rounds at par or better this fall, and her individual scoring average (72.20) is second on the team behind Telfer. She hails from Swords, Ireland.
Using Golfstat's NCAA player ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component. The next ranking will be announced on Feb. 13.
Matches for the Arnold Palmer Cup will take place June 7-9 at The Alotian Club.
