AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Anna Stevenson of the Auburn volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Tuesday as the organization released the All-Region team honorees.
Stevenson, a middle blocker from Laurens, S.C., was placed on the All-South Region squad and is now eligible for AVCA All-American consideration.
"We are really proud of the progress Anna has made this past year and finishing the season with this type of honor is a testament to her work ethic," head coach Rick Nold said. "We look forward to her and the rest of the team making another big step in 2019!"
The honor is the first for Stevenson and marks the fourth-straight season a Tiger has been placed on the All-South squad. The regional recognition is also the ninth under Nold. Camila Jersonsky earned recognition in 2013, while Jesse Earl and Alexa Filley were placed on the team or earned honorable mention from 2015-17. Current Tiger Shaina White was placed on the honorable mention squad in 2017.
Stevenson led the Tigers defensively all season, finishing her second year on the Plains with a 1.15 blocks/set average with 91 on the year. That average set a new Auburn single-season record (rally-scoring only), while her block total finished among the Top 10 for the program.
In addition, her 1.15 average finished fourth among the Southeastern Conference, while her 1.19 blocks/set mark vs. SEC-only opponents came in third. Highlighting her defensive performances on the season was her nine blocks in back-to-back matches for the Tigers – at Mississippi State (9/26) and at Ole Miss (9/30).
Offensively, Stevenson averaged 2.14 kills/set with 169 on the season. Her .269 hitting clip came in third on the team and she reached double-digits in seven matches as a sophomore. She tied her career high on two occasions with 13 kills vs. High Point (8/24) and at Ole Miss (9/30).
