AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn volleyball team picked up another academic recognition for the 2017-18 school year as the squad earned an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
Auburn was one of 164 Division I schools and seven SEC programs to be rewarded with the annual honor. The AVCA initiated the yearly award for the 1992-93 academic year and it honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The honor is the fifth in the last six seasons for the program under head coach Rick Nold. A total of 12 student-athletes from the 2017-18 team earned academic recognition from the SEC, having seven on the SEC Honor Roll and five on the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.
The 2018 season kicks off at home with the War Eagle Invitational, Aug. 24-25, in Auburn Arena. The Tigers welcome High Point and Michigan to the Plains for the season opener.
