AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn jumped two spots to No. 7 in this week's AP poll after an impressive 21-16 win over a top-10 Washington team on Saturday. The Tigers were one of just two teams in college football that knocked off a top-10 opponent in Week 1.

"Obviously, it was a big win for us Saturday," Auburn coach Gus Malzan said. "That team was as good as advertised. That team is going to be tough to beat. They've got a complete team. And that's why I was proud of our group that we found a way to win. We knew it would be close at the end. We didn't win any close games last year, but we did this year and we can take that moving forward the next time we're in that situation.

"I was really proud of the way our guys responded."

Auburn – one of seven SEC teams ranked in the AP Top 25 – also moved up to No. 7 in this week's coach's poll, which was released Tuesday.

The Tigers will host Alabama State on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
