BOSTON, Mass. – Auburn guard Jared Harper has been named to the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List. He is one of 30 players in the country to be tabbed to the watch list for the annual award.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player in college basketball. Incoming freshmen and transfers are not eligible for the award.
Harper is one of just three players from the Southeastern Conference on the prestigious list, joining Kentucky's Reid Travis and Tennessee's Grant Williams.
A preseason all-conference choice, Harper has averaged 14.5 points, 6.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while leading the top-15 Tigers. His assist mark is tops in the SEC.
The Mableton, Ga. native has produced plenty of highlights in his third year in an Auburn uniform. He tipped off the 2018-19 campaign against South Alabama with 20 points and 13 assists.
Harper then produced back-to-back stellar performances on the biggest stage in the country during the non-conference slate with 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds vs. Xavier and 22 points to go along with six assists in a clash with Duke.
Harper also willed the Tigers to victory at UAB with a 31-point performance that included a 15-of-16 showing from the foul line. He had 21 of the team's final 25 points, including 10 of 12 during overtime.
More recently, Harper became the 38th member of the 1,000-point club at Auburn. He is one of just six players in program history with 1,000 career points and 350 assists.
The 2019 Lute Olson Award will be presented in April in Minneapolis, Minn., the site of the year's Final Four.
