AUBURN, Ala. – Abby Milliet and Derrian Gobourne each played a major role in Auburn's win over LSU on Friday night, and as a result, both gymnasts were recognized by the SEC on Monday as part of the league's weekly awards.
"It's truly an honor to be selected as Freshman/Specialist of the Week in this conference," Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. "What this means is that Derrian and Abby have been selected as having the best performances in the best conference in the country! I'm so proud of Abby and Derrian because they deserve to be recognized for all their hard work."
Milliet was named the SEC Specialist of the Week after posting a 9.900 or better on bars, beam and floor. The senior won individual event titles on both bars and beam, and as the anchor on bars, she finished with a team-high 9.925 and helped Auburn earn a 49.500 – the second-highest team score on the event in program history. It's also the second-highest team score in the country so far.
Milliet won the individual title on beam after scoring a 9.900, and she capped her night with another 9.900 on floor to secure the victory over LSU.
Gobourne earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after finishing with a 39.475 in the all-around and sharing the AA title with the reigning SEC Gymnast of the Year, Sarah Finnegan. For Gobourne, it was just her second meet at the collegiate level and her first competing in all four events. The freshman took home individual event titles on vault (9.900) and floor (9.950) while adding a 9.875 on bars and a 9.750 on beam.
Auburn, who moved up to No. 13 in this week's rankings, will return to action Saturday at Missouri. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and can been seen on SEC Network+.
