AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men's tennis team posted a 4-0 win over the visiting Point Skyhawks Tuesday evening at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"We got what we were looking for in terms of getting our guys a lot of matches to start the season. We play better when we have confidence and compete, and that's what we're working toward here at the beginning of the season," Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds said.
"When the bell rings, we have to be ready to go, and we can improve that, especially in doubles. That has to become second nature by the time SEC play gets here in March."
The Tigers won the tightly contested doubles point to start the match. On court one, Matteo DeVincentis and Diego Chavarria teamed up for a 6-3 victory over Christian Garay and Julien Periera, and the point was clinched by a 6-4 win by Tad Maclean and Anders Fry over Joe Klokow and Patrick Tobacco. Auburn completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory by Alex Rushin and Michael Durham over Federico Barbon and Sam Blackburn on court three.
In singles, Auburn used wins from Matteo DeVincentis (6-1, 6-2 on court one), Anders Fry (6-2, 6-1 on court six) and the match clincher by Michael Durham (6-2, 6-2 on court three) to post the team victory.
The Tigers, now 5-0, host Alabama A&M in a doubleheader Wednesday with matches at noon and 3:30 p.m. at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Auburn will spend the weekend in Tuscaloosa, playing Harvard Friday at 1:00 p.m. and Northwestern Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in a pair of neutral-site contests at the Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
