AUBURN, Ala. – After posting a season-high score (196.775) in Friday night's win over Georgia, Auburn moved up two spots to No. 11 in this week's rankings.
The Tigers are 4-0 for the first time in program history, and they have won three straight meets against top-10 teams. This Friday, they will be back on the road again to face a Kentucky team that is ranked No. 17 and that also earned a season-high score over the weekend with a 196.650 at Florida. The meet is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
"We are looking forward to getting on the road and continuing to develop this team into a contender," Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. "These last few weeks the girls have shown tremendous fight as they set another record with three top-10 victories in a row.
"It doesn't get any easier, though. Kentucky is a huge challenge for us, and they are extremely tough at home. This will be a great opportunity for us to improve as a team."
With season-high scores on vault and beam Friday night, Auburn moved into the top 10 in both events this week. The Tigers are now ranked ninth on vault (49.075) and ninth on beam (48.950), but their best event remains bars where they are No. 7 with a 49.244 average.
Junior Gracie Day, who won the individual titles on vault and beam against Georgia, is currently ranked No. 21 nationally on vault (9.856) and No. 35 on bars (9.856).
Auburn also continues to climb the rankings on floor where Derrian Gobourne posted her second 9.950 of the season Friday. The freshman is tied for 21st with a 9.887 though four meets.
The only movement in the top five this week was Florida jumping UCLA at No. 2. Oklahoma remained in the top spot for the fourth straight week followed by Florida, UCLA, Utah and LSU. The SEC once again had seven teams in the top 20 with Florida and LSU in the top five followed by Georgia (No. 6), Alabama (No. 8), Auburn (No. 11), Missouri (No. 16) and Kentucky (No. 17). Rounding out the conference is Arkansas at No. 24.
