Clemson, S.C. — The Auburn track and field team will face its toughest test of the 2019 indoor season to date this weekend at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invite in Clemson, S.C. A total of 19 teams will be represented, including seven SEC schools.
The Clemson University Indoor Track will be a familiar facility for the Auburn program as it marks the second time in three weeks that it has competed in the facility. The Tigers lined up at the Bob Pollock Invitational.
"The biggest difference this weekend, this one will be much more loaded," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "This is going to the exactly the type of competition that we need heading into the SEC championships. This is our last regular season meet. Got a weekend off then we go to Fayetteville for the SEC Championships. This is just the kind of test we're going to need to head into the SEC Championships."
The field this weekend includes Clemson, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kentucky, Miami, Miss State, NC State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Virginia Tech.
Auburn is coming off a strong showing last weekend where four women claimed five individual events including double event winner Presley Weems in the 800m and mile.
"I was really pleased. Distance Coach (David) Barnett has done a great job and Presley Weems is getting better and better," Spry said. "She won two events this past weekend with personal-best times in both races. She's got a bunch of confidence right now, she's running good and that's what you want going into this part of the season."
Action on Friday begins at 12 p.m. ET with preliminary heats of the women's 60m hurdles. Field events start at 2:30 p.m. ET with the women's long jump and men's shot put.
