Telfer returns as Tigers wrap up first day at Sugar Bowl

Sophomore Kaleigh Telfer made her spring debut in Sunday's first round.

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 11 Auburn women's golf team shot a 299 (+10) in the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Sunday, and with two rounds still to play at English Turn G&CC, the Tigers are currently sitting in 10th out of 18 teams. 

Sophomore Kaleigh Telfer made her spring debut Sunday and led Auburn with a first-round 72 (E) that included four birdies. She's currently in a tie for 13th on the leaderboard. Telfer, ranked No. 18 in the country, missed the Shootout at Shoal Creek last weekend while recovering from a back injury. She now has eight rounds of par or better on the 2018-19 season. 

Freshman Brooke Sansom, the individual winner of the Shootout at Shoal Creek, continued her strong start to the spring season with a 74 (+2) on Sunday. Sansom made three birdies on the day and is tied for 23rd. 

Sophomores Julie McCarthy and Mychael O'Berry are in a tie for 46th after the duo each shot a 4-over 76 in the first round. They both finished with two birdies. 

Junior Elena Hualde Zúñiga rounded out the Auburn contingent with a round of 80 (+8). She's currently in a tie for 79th overall. 

Texas leads the field at 3-under par (285), followed by Duke (286), USC (289), South Carolina (294), North Carolina State (295), Florida (295), Houston (296), Michigan State (297), Oklahoma State (297), Auburn (298), LSU (299), Washington (300), Miami (300), North Carolina (304), Tulane (306), SMU (308), Arizona State (308), UC Davis (319). 

Auburn is paired with LSU and Washington for the second round and will tee off at 9 a.m. from the 10th hole. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com
