AUBURN, Ala. – Seniors Ashton Alexander and Betsy Brown were named SEC February Rider of the Month in their respect events, the Southeastern Conference office announced Thursday.
Alexander earned the honor in Equitation Over Fences after going 4-0 in the event with one Most Outstanding Performer award.
Highlighting the month for the Ocala, Fla., product was her performance at then-No. 3 South Carolina (Feb. 16). She earned a career-high 94 on the road, winning MOP honors and helping the Tigers go 4-1 over the Gamecocks in the event.
Alexander opened the month with a neutral site win vs. then-No. 9 Delaware State (Feb. 1). She followed with back-to-back wins at home vs. No. 10 UT Martin (Feb. 8) and South Dakota State (Feb. 9), helping the squad sweep both opponents in the event.
Brown was recognized for her performances in Reining, going 4-0 with one MOP and helping the Reining corps finish with an 18-3-3 record in the month.
The Waxhaw, N.C., kicked off February with a 67.5-66.5 win at then-No. 10 Fresno State (Feb. 2) and earned MOP recognition for the victory. Brown capped the month with a 3.5-pt win on the road at then-No. 3 South Carolina, scoring 72.5 points.
At home, Brown earned a 70-67.5 win vs. South Dakota State, helping the Tigers sweep the Jackrabbits in the event. She also put together a solid ride against No. 10 UT Martin to edge her opponent, 69-68.5.
Auburn heads out on a long trip to Texas, March 1-2. The Tigers kick off the trip with another SEC contest, facing No. 4 Texas A&M, March 1, at 11 a.m. CT in College Station. The squad caps the trip at No. 2 SMU, March 2, squaring off with the Mustangs at 10 a.m. CT in Dallas.
