On World Read Aloud Day, 34 Auburn student-athletes along with cheerleaders and Tiger Paws dancers visited four Auburn elementary schools Friday.
Student-athletes from baseball, equestrian, football, women's golf, soccer and softball, and Auburn cheerleaders and Tiger Paws read to students at Cary Woods Elementary, Dean Road Elementary, Ogletree Elementary and Yarbrough Elementary schools.
"Reading to the kids is always a highlight for me, because it reminds me that the simple things in life should be cherished the most," Auburn softball player Justus Perry said. "And of course, remembering how much I loved to read as a kid!"
"Reading to a classroom full of wide-eyed, adorable 5 to 8-year-olds is one of my favorite experiences as an Auburn Cheerleader," Ivy Colbert said. "It is in these little moments where we get to give back to our loving Auburn community. It may seem so small, but it makes such a great impact. And to have one of them look at you and say they want to be like you when they grow up? Priceless!"
World Read Aloud Day celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. It started in 2009 as a global movement to highlight the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories by LitWorld, a non-profit that promotes the non-profit organization LitWorld.
