WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – Trace Crowe is tied for 12th at 4-under after the opening round of the Amer Ari Invitational Thursday afternoon. The senior did most of his damage on a bogey-free back nine where he went 5-under that featured an eagle on the par-5, 501-yard 18th hole.
As a team, No. 13 Auburn is tied with TCU for sixth at 9-under following a 279 card on the par-72 Kings' Course.
Ryan Knop and Jovan Rebula are in a 10-player logjam for 20th at 3-under. Knop, competing as an individual, matched Crowe's back nine with a score of 5-under that totaled six birdies, two pars and one bogey.
The junior strung together birdies on four of the first five holes on the 10th-14th holes. Rebula scattered five birdies across his first 18 holes.
Graysen Huff and Jacob Solomon also went below par and are tied for 41st at 1-under. The duo combined for 24 pars in their first circuits of the tournament.
Brandon Mancheno rounded out the Tiger contingent in a tie for 65th at 1-over. The highlight of his first round came on the fourth hole when the sophomore stuck an eagle on the par-5, 513-yard hole.
No. 1 Oklahoma State leads the field at 21-under (267), followed by Texas Tech (269), Oregon (271), No. 2 Georgia Tech and No. 6 USC (277), No. 13 Auburn and TCU (279), Colorado (280), No. 12 Texas and Utah (281), San Jose State (284), Oregon State and Hawaii-Hilo (285), Osaka Gakuin (Japan) (288), UC Davis (289), Stanford and Pacific (290) and Hawaii (297).
Tee times for the second round are set for 11:30 a.m. CT. The Tigers are paired with Colorado, TCU and USC in foursomes off the fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th holes. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.
