STARKVILLE, Miss. –  The Auburn women's tennis team dropped a tough road match Friday afternoon on the road, falling to Mississippi State 4-2 at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

Auburn (13-7, 0-5) fell behind early and fought hard to make up ground in singles but could not finish off the comeback.

The Tigers dropped the doubles point in the narrowest fashion. Mixing up the doubles lineup for the first time this year, Jaeda Daniel and Yu Chen won their first match together on court 2, 6-4. Also playing together for the first time in 2019, Madeline Meredith and Alannah Griffin forced a tiebreaker on court 2, but fell just short as the Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead.

Daniel got the Tigers on the board with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles spot to knot the match 1-1. MSU won the next two matches, taking a three-set win on court 2 and winning a second-set tiebreaker at the No. 3 spot to take a 3-1 lead. Chen pulled the Tigers back within a point with a three-set win at the No. 5 spot, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, but the Bulldogs finished off the win at the No. 5 singles position.

The Tigers will wrap up the road trip Sunday as they take on Ole Miss. Match time is set for 1 p.m. CT in Oxford.
