PALM CITY, Fla. – The No. 13 Auburn men's golf team is just three strokes off the lead after the first round of the Valspar Collegiate Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers shot a 3-under 281 after their first circuit of the par-71 Floridian National Golf Club and are three shots behind leaders Florida State, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
Jacob Solomon led the way for Auburn with a 3-under 68 and is tied for 11th overall. The senior carded a team-best five birdies with three on the back nine and two on the front nine.
Trace Crowe is just two strokes behind Solomon after he turned in a 1-under 70. The senior racked up a team-high 15 pars in a near-flawless round. Crowe is tied 17th after 18 holes.
Wells Padgett and Graysen Huff are tied for 23rd and 30th at even-par and 1-over respectively. Padgett turned in five birdies, including four on the back nine, while Huff had four birdies with three coming on the back nine.
Jovan Rebula shot a 2-over 71 and is tied for 40th. Andrew Kozan, competing as an individual, is tied for 62nd after turning in a 4-over 75.
No. 6 Wake Forest, Florida State and South Carolina lead the field at 6-under (278), followed by No. 1 Oklahoma State (279), No. 13 Auburn (281), Texas A&M and Baylor (284), No. 3 Vanderbilt and No. 9 Georgia Tech (285), Houston (288), No. 11 LSU (289), No. 2 Duke (290), Arkansas (291), No. 8 Texas (293) and No. 20 USF (297).
Due to the threat of weather, teams will attempt to play the final 36 holes Monday. The Tigers are paired with Oklahoma State and Texas A&M off the first tee box, beginning at 7:20 a.m. CT.
