AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men's tennis squad opened SEC play Friday against Texas A&M, and the Aggies claimed a 7-0 win at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"We had our chances in doubles; courts one, two and three had break points and couldn't capitalize," said Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds. "A&M might be a better indoor team, and they were more aggressive. Going forward, we need to try and play aggressive tennis."
Texas A&M was the winner of a spirited doubles competition, capturing close-fought victories on courts three (6-3) and one (6-4). The Aggies took that momentum to sweep the first sets in singles and claim the overall team victory
Auburn is now 10-7 on the season (0-1 SEC); Texas A&M goes to 7-3 and 1-0 in SEC action. This was the conference opener for both squads.
The Tigers entertain No. 18 LSU (11-1) Sunday at noon. Fan promotions include a Fan of the Match drawing for all SEC events and an Auburn yo-yo giveaway Sunday while supplies last. All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (771 Yarbrough Farms Blvd., Auburn) and admission is free.
